Profiting from office automation, or office integration, requires analysis of your needs, available hard- and software solutions and most importantly: You have to mind your employees! They have to be comfortable with it.

You also need to take some thought on how to bring new technology into your office. Too much of a change at once may overwhelm your employees and all your efforts might be in vain. Better go slow and build your office automation in logical, hierarchical parts.

Finally, make sure that you have at least one person, who oversees and accompanies the implementation. She or he has to be able to help your employees, if they get into difficulties. She also has to analyse the progress and make corrections as required. 
   

Accounting Systems

Accounting systems can be different things, depending on your requirements. Do you want to account for your financials only, or do you want to account for your business process. In the first case, you will have a financial accounting system, in the latter, you will be looking at what could be called a business management system or enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. 

These two flavours of accounting systems are very different with regard to planning, implementation and employee training requirements. They are also very different in the required investment.

In general, I think it is important that you carefully analyse your needs and make projections on your future development. When you start a small business, you usually do not need a business management system. You will be fine with a financial accounting system. But take a moment to consider what you might need tomorrow, when your business idea has worked and you are growing into a medium sized business!
